It’ll come as no surprise to you that to start your own business is a huge decision. You’ll need drive, motivation, and a message that you believe in with your entire heart and soul. In fact, over 84% of small business owners say they’d never do it again! So if you’ve started to think about lift-off, know there’s a few tips and tricks we’d like to share with you – to help guide you along your pass to start your own business brilliance.
What is your message?
Number one, tip top start your own business advice, is to know your message. Without that, your business has no drive, no purpose. It could be something as simple as “buy my app”, but – you’ll really need to get to the core of why? Does this app make life simpler, help you to book a table faster, or solve a problem your user doesn’t even know they have? Are you promoting wellbeing, efficiency, or healthy eating? Figure out your message, function, and just how you are going to change the world first – and let this message define everything you and your business does.
Now you’ve actualised your dream, the next step to start your own business is a business plan. You might want to work with a marketing company for this, but a good way to gage if your idea is financially viable is to work on a back-of-an-envelope business plan. Take your costs, such as staff pay, equipment and rent charges, and minus that from the profit you think you’ll make. If you come out positive, it’s a go. Negative, and you’ll need to rethink a part of your plan.
One of the easiest ways to know how to market your small business is to think about your target customers. It’s true, variety is the spice of life, and not everyone will be interested in the reason you had to start your own business. Sit down and write out the characteristics of your target customer, or customers. How old are they? What are their likes? Dislikes? What do they work as? What do they do for fun? Really get this down, and you’ll know where else to target in terms of advertisement!
